There’s an official-looking decal on the fridge at work. It says, Hurricane Evacuation Plan: Grab beer. Run like hell.
It’s true — before a hurricane hits, people do tend to stock up on alcohol. (Also, they seem to crave strawberry Pop Tarts, according to Walmart!)
The Atlantic hurricane season is now upon us, so let’s survive it with some storm-related cocktails! While we’re out picking up batteries and bottled water, let’s plan ahead, and gather supplies for some festive-feeling, stress-reducing, storm-themed beverages. For recipes, Robin spoke to Jeannie Weaver, owner and chief mixologist at Revival, a craft cocktail bar in downtown Lakeland.
Jeannie’s number one choice: the Dark ‘n Stormy, made with Gosling’s ginger beer and black rum, plus a splash of lime. She says that fresh-squeezed lime is always preferable, but advises having a bottle of shelf-stable lime juice on hand when it’s not convenient to go shopping for limes. Her other choices include the New Orleans favorite, the Hurricane, plus the Florida Man, and the Category Five, which Jeannie calls “your worst nightmare, but your best libation.”
